Roczen claims Cleveland triple crown win

Ken Roczen took the overall win in the weekend's AMA Supercross round in Cleveland, Ohio, with two podiums and a race win in the event's Triple Crown format.

The result moves the Progressive Insurance Suzuki rider to within one point of the championship lead with three rounds to go.

Roczen made two solid starts in both of the first two motos. In race one he moved into second place early on and rode a safe ride to the runner-up spot. In race two he was forced to battle for his place on the podium, but with race one winner and his title rival behind him, it put him in a strong position to take the overall win in race three.

Roczen celebrates Cleveland win

Demonstrating why the German feels he is in the form of his life, he grabbed the holeshot and set about pulling away at the front of the field. Undeterred by the deteriorating track conditions as the rain fell steadily, he extended his advantage out front to nearly 10 seconds, taking a dominant race win, and with it the overall.

He said, "I had an absolute blast. We just had a great weekend. With the potential of rain and a Triple Crown, it was a recipe for chaos. But I have to say for everything that was thrown at us with the weather, we did a phenomenal job as a team.

"It's not easy getting ready three times for three ‘main events,’ because they all count. Starts are really important, and the track itself was extremely difficult due to how hardpacked it was, how rutted it got, and how slippery it was. So, getting the win here with the two-two-one, it was just an absolute next-level experience. I’m really taking these moments in, and I can't wait for next weekend in Philly."
