REBUILT TO RACE

This bike was built at Motorcycle Live in 2016 to race in the Classic Endurance Legends series at Donington Park in 2017. As the Suzuki Vintage Parts Programme was the main sponsor of the event, it was a great opportunity to actually compete in the race. The team was James Whitham, Steve Parrish and Michael Neeves, and unfortunately, the bike was retired very early in the race! The next outing was at the Spa Classic with Guy Martin and Pete Boast who finished a fantastic seventh in terrible conditions.

In the second season of racing, the Katana had mixed fortunes with bad luck and crashes but with a result high in Oschersleben, where the team of John Reynolds and Pete Boast finished first in class and third overall. In season three, the bike was loaned to B&B Motorcycles (Suzuki dealer in Lincoln) to compete in the complete series and, much like the previous year, there was bad luck and crashes, but the team managed a fantastic third in the Open Class Championship which was a great achievement from the team. In the final race at Misano in October with a three-man team of Pete Boast, Richard Steadman and Michael Neeves, they went on to finish in 10th place after briefly leading the race and also missing five laps due to a crash. The bike is still in the same condition as when it finished the race, with all its battle scars.

At Motorcycle Live 2016 Team Classic Suzuki built the Katana that was also entered into the 2017 Endurance Legends event at Donington Park.

It was also raced at Aragon with Michael Neeves and Pete Boast and whilst battling for third place and with 2 laps to go (roughly 4 minutes left of the 4 hour race), unfortunately Pete fell off at the end of the back straight. In 2017 the bike made a return to the Classic Endurance Series at Donington again this time with John Reynolds standing in for James Whitham and whilst in 2nd place the bike was retired with a technical issue. Finally, in July the bike went to Oschersleben with John Reynolds and Pete Boast, in 40+degrees of track temperature they brought the bike back ‘FIRST’ in class and third overall.

Suzuki GB aftersales co-ordinator, Tim Davies, said, "This was the third bike build to take place on our stand at Motorcycle Live; the TL1000S was our first and we celebrated the GSX-R750’s 30th anniversary with a restoration of an original F model. Both of those builds highlighted our commitment to our Vintage Parts Programme.”
