South coast dealership Dearden Motorcycles is marking its appointment as an approved Suzuki retailer with a grand open weekend on 16-17 March, with the new Katana on display, racing legend Phil Read making an appearance, plus live music and hog roast providing the entertainment on Saturday evening.
Appearing just days after its global press launch in Japan will be Suzuki’s new Katana, allowing many customers to see the bike in the metal and try it for size for the first time. The latest version of the 1980s icon takes design cues from the original, but its distinctive, angular bodywork is wrapped around a thoroughly modern engine, chassis, and electronics package.
Also nodding to Suzuki’s rich heritage will be the display of Barry Sheene’s 1976 and 1977 world championship-winning RG500s and Kevin Schwantz’s iconic 1988 Pepsi Suzuki RGV500, while eight-time Grand Prix world champion and multiple TT-winner Phil Read will be on hand to meet fans and sign autographs on Sunday 17 March, with three-time British Superbike Champion John Reynolds attending across the weekend.
With Suzuki’s fully-equipped event unit in attendance and bringing with it a comprehensive fleet of test ridebikes, visitors will be able to enjoy demo rides on a range of bikes including the race-winning GSX-R1000R, the GSX-S1000 super-naked and GSX-S1000F, GSX-S750, and the V-Strom 650 adventurer.
Dearden Motorcycles open weekend will take place on 16-17 March at its Southampton showroom, which can be found at Unit 5, Hardley Industrial Estate, Hythe, Hardley, Southampton, SO45 3NQ.
